GUIDELINES PLATES VACUUM INSULATION(VIP, VACUUM ISOLATION PANELS) Nov 30, 2017

In contrast to conventional insulation materials, increased requirements must be taken into account in the planning and processing of vacuum insulation panels (VIPs).

If you follow the instructions below, VIPs will be able to provide highly efficient components over the classic service life of 50 years. VIP is a thermally highly efficient insulating material, which consists of a porous core material and is covered by a high-barrier film. The insulating effect is based essentially on the functional principle of the vacuum inside the panels.

VIP should always be handled with care and checked for possible ventilation before further processing. Complete ventilation can be recognized by the fact that the silvery glossy film does not rest tightly but only loosely on the core. In the further processing of the VIP, the following points in particular must be taken into account:

If VIP elements are supplied, these must be checked immediately for functionality by a visual inspection in accordance with the stated optical criteria.

The silvery sheath of the VIP elements must not be damaged mechanically. In particular, sawing, drilling or scratching must be avoided at all costs.

The substrate on which the VIP elements are to be applied must be smooth, even and free of edges and ridges.

VIP elements must not be exposed to high temperatures, high humidity and / or aggressive gases during storage or during use. In particular, permanent moisture over 60% rel. Humidity and temperatures above 50 ° C to avoid.

When installing and using VIP elements, these should be exposed to little or no mechanical stress. In particular, point loads and prolonged shaking or pulling on the casing should be avoided.

For designs with vacuum panels, it must be ensured that they are only exposed to a uniform, flat compressive load. Pull and shear forces on the VIP elements must be excluded.

Adhesion of VIP is always possible with adhesives recommended by the manufacturer. It is also possible to foam VIP with polyurethane foams. In all cases, however, it must be ensured that the temperatures occurring do not exceed 100 ° C even in the short term. In general, solvent-free adhesives should be used! In individual cases, tests are advisable and necessary and the manufacturer's information on the adhesives must be observed.

It should be noted that thermal bridges or cold bridges in VIP constructions come to light to a far greater extent than in constructions with conventional insulation materials. Applications with VIP edge lengths below approx. 15 cm are not very useful due to the influence of edge losses.

Since humidity in particular can condense in cold spots, appropriate vapor barriers must be used in constructions with VIP. Such vapor barriers should also prevent build-up of moisture from forming in the immediate vicinity of the panel.

It must be ensured that only trained persons process the VIP elements. In particular, the processing instructions, tailored to the individual case, are explained.
